Health Summit meeting successes!

Remarkably enough today’s health bill Summit went well for America! I have read from 3 different sources today that the conservative were successful in getting their points across and holding their own. See below:

Karl Rove-

The congressional Republicans at today's televised health-care "summit" at the White House naturally want to prevent the president from turning it into a PR stunt. This is no easy task. They'll not only have to point out problems with his plan and offer their own ideas, but correct the president when he makes statements that are not true.

The GOP participants appear ready for the first two tasks. ****In an unusual approach, House and Senate members prepped together the way a candidate preps for a presidential debates—by pulling together debate books and conducting mock sessions. But the third task is the most critical and the most difficult.****

Redstate-

They realized yesterday that they still don’t have enough Democrats in the House to even pull off their Reconciliation.

Americans for Limited Government-

Dear Liberty Activist,
Today, as you are well aware, the White House Health Care Takeover summit is in full swing today. I have to admit that I am pretty happy with how it's shaping up. Congressional Republicans are not laying down; they are well-prepared and their arguments highly effective against ObamaCare on just about every point.

They also have a fact-checking rapid response. Everything that we're getting from members I am posting instantaneously at www.washingtonalert.org. Everything from Obama lying about CBO's report, which does state that ObamaCare would raise premiums; to Reid lying about the threat of reconciliation.

So, let me just be honest. I was wrong. Republicans need not have walked away from this summit. Senator Lamar Alexander in his opening statement for the Republicans made the point, quite effectively, that the summit was effectively pointless if Congressional Democrats refused to take the reconciliation threat off the table.

If they had just walked out then and there, a great opportunity would have been missed to set the record straight, which is exactly what they're doing.

Obama and the Democrats may have thought they were laying a trap, but instead, it is they who have been hoisted by their own petards.

So, bravo, to Congressional Republicans for standing up for the American people. And thank you all for your thoughtful letters telling me why I was wrong about this. You were right.

Let's keep fighting! Here are all the phone numbers for Blue Dog and other so-called "moderate" Democrat members of the House that should be targeted
(excepting Parker Griffith from the list, who is now conferencing with House Republicans and has expressed opposition to the ObamaCare bill).

Again, I recommend calling and emails. Let's deliver a knockout blow today. Nobody thinks the Democrats are performing well at this summit. Today's a good day to jump off a sinking ship if Nancy Pelosi was trying to stick the screws to members to vote on a reconciliation bill.

Lights, Camera, Action!
President Obama and congressional leaders of both political parties met today at the Blair House, across from the White House, to debate healthcare reform ideas. It didn’t take long for President Obama to launch into a campaign speech, berating his critics and suggesting that the problem is conservative opposition. Let me make this point again: Obama’s “problem” is the American people and some in his own party who have rejected his socialist scheme.

The only reason ObamaCare is not already a reality is because congressional Democrats could not agree. They have historic majorities in the House and Senate, and a president willing to sign almost anything they give him. But the reason congressional Democrats could not reach a consensus is that they know the American people don’t want what they are offering. Here’s proof.

Yesterday, CNN released the results of a new poll on healthcare reform. While some specific reforms are popular, this socialized Big Government takeover is not. When asked what Congress should do now, only 25% of those polled said Congress should pass a similar bill; 48% said scrap it and start over; and 25% said drop it and move on. That means the approach favored by Barack Obama and congressional liberals has the support of just 25% of the American people, while 73% oppose what they are doing.

It couldn’t be clearer: THE AMERICAN PEOPLE DON’T WANT SOCIALIZED MEDICINE!

While there have been some good points at today’s summit, I think the best point was made before the summit by a man who isn’t there. Senator Judd Gregg (R-NH) said that our biggest problem today isn’t healthcare, but the fact that we already have a government we can’t afford. Barack Obama wants to make it even bigger with another trillion-dollar entitlement program run by the very folks who have bankrupted the Post Office, Social Security and Medicare. That is a point that almost every American understands. In fact, it has spawned a new political and cultural movement. (More on that in the next item.)

I’ve been watching the healthcare summit all day. (It’s a tough job, but someone has to do it.) I know that conservatives were divided on whether it was a good idea even to attend for fear that Obama would dominate the event. But my sense is that this has not been a good event for the president. He has alternated between looking angry, arrogant and bored.

Conservative participants have been persistent in getting their main points across. Yes, the meeting was a “set-up.” Yes, the liberals will try to ram their scheme through Congress in the days ahead. But we will fight back and congressional conservatives did that well today.

For a party in the minority, and for an enormous group of Americans that used to being ignored no matter how hard we try and pray, the consensus is that we had a pretty good day.

We don’t know where it’ll all go from here. The other side is not used to being told NO. Expect some version of a tantrum and some very brutish tactics next but we’ll keep the pressure up!

Warmly,
