ObamaCare and his Broken Promises

From: Gary L. Bauer

Last year, when his healthcare “reform” plan was on life support on Capitol Hill, President Obama hit the campaign trail to sell it to the public. During a much-hyped town hall appearance in New Hampshire, Obama made several promises about his proposed “reforms.” He told the audience:

“If you like your health care plan, you can keep your health care plan.” That may not be true, as we reported on June 8th.

He said, “This is not about putting the government in charge of your health insurance.” In fact, the government will start dictating health insurance policies, as we reported on June 15th.

Obama also said, “You will not be waiting in any lines.” A report released late last week by the Associated Press casts doubt on that claim too.

According to the AP report, largely ignored over the July 4th holiday weekend, under ObamaCare tens of millions of uninsured individuals will be covered, more than half of them by Medicaid. The report cites a number of concerns regarding the new law, which could result in emergency rooms becoming “even more crowded with longer wait times.” For example:

“There’s already a shortage of front-line family physicians in some places and experts think that will get worse.”

“The biggest users of emergency rooms by far are Medicaid recipients. And the new health insurance law will increase their ranks by 16 million.”

Dr. Arthur Kellermann of the Rand Corporation pointed to Massachusetts, whose state-run program has often been cited as a model for ObamaCare. Since Massachusetts passed its “reform” law, ER visits are up, not down. Dr. Angela Gardner, president of the American College of Emergency Physicians, told the AP, “We’re starting out with crowded conditions and anticipating things will only get worse.”
